Cash a DSS housing rent check authorized to do so.

My boyfriend gets a check for his rent from Suffolk County NY DSS . He is begging me to cash it (authorized) and pay his rent for him. Only problem is he is in jail at the moment being held not charged yet. He says he will be out soon and his court date is @ 1 week away. Is it ok to do this for him until we know for sure if he gets out or not? He doesn’t want to be homeless? His things are all still here of course and normally by law if your posessions are there the landlord is legally allowed to charge you rent for that time until your belongings are removed. I don’t want to get in trouble even with his authorizing it .. nor do I want him to get a charge down the line for it either.
